Honours at Nepean
The Sydney Medical School Nepean has a variety of research projects in a number of disciplines available to Medical Program students seeking to undertake MBBS (Honours). Opportunities for PhD and Masters research projects also exist. Projects can be individually tailored to suit the needs and interests of each candidate. Opportunities for laboratory based and or clinically based projects are available. Full training in all laboratory techniques required will be provided, and may include isolation of primary cells, cell culture, ELISAs, DNA isolation, PCR, SDS-PAGE/Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry and sample collection. Projects are available in the following disciplines:
- Cardiology: Inflammation in heart failure
- Critical Care: Sepsis, Intensive Care Echocardiography, Biomarkers, Neurotrauma
- Dermatology: Purinergic signalling in contact dermatitis
- Geriatrics: Aging Bone Research Program.
- Haematology: Factors regulating erythrocyte life-span
- Immunology: Interleukin-1 family members in rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases
- Infectious Disease: Genetic determinants in tuberculosis.
- Neurology: Movement Disorders/Stroke and Neural Intensive Care
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology: Medical disorders in pregnancy and ultrasound, Fetomaternal Medicine and Early Pregnancy:
- Paediatrics: Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome /ADHD / T-cell Immunology.
- PsychologicalMedicine: AnxietyDisorders/
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders. - Urogynaecology: Pelvic Floor Trauma, prolapse surgery, prediction of delivery mode, pelvic floor protection in labour.
