George Klein

MA Hons, M Ed.

George Klein is a Behavioural Scientist who has worked in the area of Drug & Alcohol Medicine since 1981.

His current research projects include the following:

  • A prospective study of patients undergoing combined pharmacotherapy for Hepatitis C coping with side effects of treatment
  • Study of people in methadone treatment who are Hepatitis C positive
  • Variation of everyday stimuli in the lives of substance affected people

George is also working on evaluation research projects with:

  • Phoebe House (a residential early intervention service for substance affected women and their new babies)
  • WHOS-MTAR a residential service for people on methadone who wish to withdraw to abstinence in a supported environment
  • An evaluation of Summary Family reports for Family Court of Australia

George is presently formulating future research in the following areas:

  • Alcoholic liver disease among younger adults
  • Methadone and sleep disturbance
  • Changes in stress and sex hormones in men undergoing alcohol withdrawal
  • What patients remember from drug & alcohol counselling interviews
